P 51 cockpit4/7/2023 ![]() I had no idea what part H60 was, but have now learned that a Detrola was a low frequency radio receiver, which seems to have been limited to use in the USA, and may not have had any value at all in Europe. WOW, talk about detail! Now, I'm conflicted. Building the P-51 Mustang, The Story of Manufacturing North American's Legendary World War II Fighter in Oringal Photos. If you're modeling an early P-51D, your aircraft probably will not have that installed. P-51, also called Mustang, a single-seat, single-engine fighter aircraft originally designed and produced by North American Aviation for the British Royal. Also that part that goes on the rear of the armor plate seat I believe is part of the IFF. When the B & C models were made of the P-51, they added a Rolls Royce Merlin engine and this completely transformed its performance at high altitude (15,000+ feet) which meant it matched or even bettered that of the Luftwaffe’s fighter jets. The shaded part of H34 underneath the seat should be an olive color as it's a fabric cover. The Mustang was designed originally to be used with the Allison V-1710 engine making it a very good aircraft. Detrola was really only good in the USA at that time. BTW google also turns up some interesting drawings - you should be. Seek it out and I'm sure you'll be impressed. The 12 aircraft included are: P-38, P-51, B-17, Hellcat, F4U Corsair, Spitfire, Mosquito, Lancaster, Bf109, FW190, Ju-87 and the Zero. The Detrola (Part H60) would have been removed on ETO Mustangs but may have been used in Mediterranean Mustangs and Pacific Mustangs. The artwork by Watanabe is absolutely stunning and for cockpit detail the book is unsurpassed. Whether that resin board was painted or not is unknown so if you decide to paint it interior green, not many are going to know any different. The floor that the auxiliary fuel tank sits on is a resin board with balsa wood supports on the sides between the fuselage formers and the tank. ![]() That's why that portion of the armor plating behind the seat is painted black while the remainder is interior green. Everything above a certain waterline (I've forgotten what that waterline is), was painted flat black. On P-51D production: The framing (part H40) for the radio and battery (prior to it being relocated to the firewall area) was painted flat black. The P-51D can be loaded with six 12.7 mm AN/M2 Browning machine guns, 450 kg of bombs, and six or ten 127 mm T64 H.V.A.R rockets.Hold one. It can climb at a rate of 3,200 feet per minute. It has a travel range of 1,434 nautical miles with external tanks and a service ceiling of 41,900 feet.
